In My Garden

April 28th and 29th: Flowers, Plants, and Worms.

We went through our regular morning routine with the calendar, weather, pledge, and the imagination box question that asked, "What is your favorite part of a plant"?  Chris said the stem, Ryan answered, roots and Eisley said, leaves...they are pretty.  We got to talk all about the plants and flowers.

Reviewing our letters Q, R,and U.

For snack we stayed with our topic for the day and made flowers out of fruit.  They had fun exploring new ways to use the fruit and creating fun flowers.  Plus it was yummy to eat when we were done designing.

We checked out our green house and discovered that not much was happening with the beans.  Still no sprouts.
Writing practice and review of letters the oval and our sight words he and she.

 Colors:
Question?  Do you like worms?  why or why not? They all agreed they did and they all different reasons why.  Ryan: Because they feed our plants.  Eisley: because they go slow. Christopher: because there some long ones.  We continued to talk all about worms!!  They wiggled and moved as best they could like a worm.  It was challenging with no hands and arms but they did it.
In my Garden you would see....
Berries and Pumpkins
Grapes
Watermelons
We stayed with our theme for snack once again and ate worms in dirt.

The kids made their very own gardens using shapes to create different veggies.  Orange triangles for carrots, green circles for cabbage, red circles for tomatoes, green straight lines for celery and a brown circle for a potatoes.  Some were growing above the the ground and some in the ground.

We ended our preschool week with Show and Tell.  They each brought a toy that represented the letters Q,R,or U.  Christopher brought in a Robot, Ryan brought his Remote to a remote control car, and Eisley shared her Unicorn toy.
The weeks are flying by with these little ones and they are learning and growing so much!

Rain forest

April 14-16.  They worked very hard on their rainforest book this week.  We talked about the ant, lemur, bat and frog.  We also learned about the Oval shape and the number 9.  Our sight word this week was HE.

Three cute kids working on their oval books.  We transformed ovals into a new picture.  They each shared their favorite one.

A flower
A watermelon
A seed underground.
Ants carrying leafs on their backs.

Lemurs move so slow that algae will grow on them.
 Play time.

Poison Dart frogs are found in the rain forest.
The kids traced their sight word...HE.

Playing leap frog was hilarious to watch!  They all took turns and Christopher had the easiest time jumping over but was the hardest one to jump over.  It was tough getting down into a ball and staying low to the ground.  We tried it again the next day outside were they had room to spread out and they did much better the second time around and really enjoyed it.

The letter Q.  Not so easy to say.
 Sorting and counting.

 Leap frog.  take 2.

It was so nice to go outside and enjoy the great weather.  I hope there is more fabulous weather and fun preschool days ahead. :)

And the Rainforest grew all around, all around...

This was the beginning of a really fun unit. The kids really liked the theme book this month, and I did too. We never got tired of reading/singing it.

The learning box also had lots of fun ideas for rainforest themed snacks. We decided to make frozen bananas the first day.

These boys were super excited about this project.
Eisley not so much. Apparently she does not like bananas.

The kids got to make explorer hats and binoculars.

Then we turned on some jungle music and went exploring to see what we could find.
These guys have great imaginations and we had so much fun finding elephants, running from wild cats and ducking through all the dense green foliage.

The boys and I agreed the frozen bananas were fantastic.

Eisley enjoyed her chocolate dipped rice roller.

All the kids had pretty awesome chocolate faces by the end.

This is me trying to sneakily capture a picture of their amazing imagination play.
I am not even sure what the game was, but I know it involved dinosaurs.
They were so into this game and played for a solid 40 minutes, all of them getting along so nicely.
It was so fun to watch and listen to. I'm glad I thought we ended at 11, so they had so much extra time.

I love any excuse to make something fun, so this morning we decided to make the rainforest cookie recipe that we saw in the back of the book. The kids had lots of fun discovering how many ingredients in the cookies came from the rainforest.
Sugar, cocoa, coconut, cashews, and bananas.

They were all excellent helpers.

Then we talked about the shape of the month. An oval.

We all agreed the cookies were fantastic and had a hard time not having "just one more."
Who knew the rainforest could be so delicious?

Then we began a really fun art project that goes along with the book
that they will be working on over the next couple weeks.

This was a very art intensive day. First we talked about the letter R and rainbows.
The kids were really into coloring their rainbows and took a lot of time.
We even got out some cotton balls to make fluffy clouds.
I love how Ryan made his clouds rain clouds.Christopher took a lot of time to make sure no white was showing on his rainbow.
Eisley, of course, decided that their needed to be more pink in the rainbow.

These boys were VERY into coloring their purple, green and brown books. They spent a lot of time on them, and Eisley was trying very hard to be patient waiting for them to come play with her. She loved that dinosaur pretend game from the other day and wanted to play again.

More and more crafts.
I always tell myself I will be better about writing down funny things the kids do and say during class, but then I don't. At least I got lots of pictures though. It really was a very fun week of school.
