Thanksgiving Lesson

It was a double lesson lesson. But that meant a lot of crafting, which the kids love.

We experimented with our colors of the month, Brown and Orange.

We colored turkeys. The girls wouldn't stand for a brown turkey, of course.

Then we talked about things we are thankful for.
Ryan is thankful for food, Mi Na for her American Girl Doll, Eisley said "nothing" but then changed it to her mom. Christopher said toys.

The kids had fun practicing their turkey strut. Below is a video of it. (you have to go to the blog page to see it)
They also loved the 10 little turkey finger play.

Then the parents came for a variation on a Thanksgiving feast.
Turkey roll ups, carrots and tomatoes, dried fruits and seeds, and "cornucopias".
We even had a pumpkin sheet cake that we used to sing Happy Birthday to Ryan.

Senses and Pilgrims

November 18th.  We packed 6 lessons into 3 this week and accomplished so much.  We finished up our section on Senses and read a fun interactive Goldilocks story that the kids helped me do actions to and played two fun games that the kids loved.  We started our new section on Thanksgiving.  We learned about pilgrims, turkey's and what a cornucopia is.

Math time.  Our shape for the week is a square and our colors are Brown and Orange.
Rainbow squares:  They loved tracing the square to form a rainbow.

These 4 kiddies are just the cutest!
Our first senses game was a board game where the kids picked a card and then choose which of our senses it matched to best.  We talked about taste as one of our senses and discussed our favorite foods.  Ryan said Mac and cheese with ham right away and Eisley likes Tacos.  She added,  "but mostly for the sour cream".
The second senses game we played was charades and they loved this!  We went through everyone twice and then I let them pick an item on their own to act out when they wanted to keep playing.  They pretended to smell flowers and eat sour things or touch something very hot and they were all Oscar worthy performances.
Pretending to bounce a ball
Smelling a flower
reading a book
using binoculars
petting a kitty cat
Play time:  The boys played Lego's and Mi Na did Ariel's hair while Eisley bounced back and forth between the two.

November 19th: Is it 3?  They cut and pasted items in columns determining if there are 3 of something or not.  We practiced "thumbs-up" when cutting and they all did such a good job with the scissors.

We Glued Gold Glitter on the letter G.

learning to say thank you in sign language.
Pilgrims, pilgrims, pilgrims....we learned that it took the pilgrims 65 days to cross the ocean to America and that the boat they crossed in is called the Mayflower.
We chatted quite a bit about being thankful this week and several times named off things we are thankful for.  On one occasion Eisley said she was thankful for food, Christopher is thankful for school, Mi Na is thankful for friends and Jesus, and Ryan is thankful for his house.

Cantaloupe smiles are best.

November 20th.  Our jam packed week was coming to a close.  Christopher joined us a bit later after having a not so good start to his day when his hand got slammed in the car door.  We were glad to have him join the fun as we counted and glued turkey feathers and put together a puzzle while talking about the cornucopia.  I learned right along with the kids that the cornucopia was originally a goats horn that they filled with fruits, vegetables and nuts.  Who knew?

Ryan and Christopher opted to have their puzzle cut even smaller for a bigger challenge.
The girls were happy to keep theirs simple and were more interested in coloring the picture underneath.

Art Squares:  Loved their unique approach to the placements of the squares.

Pilgrim, Pilgrim Turkey. (Duck duck goose)  I love that they raise their hands in hope the person it will choose them.  oh how they love this game!
Indian foot races:  sprinting, hopping on one foot, running back wards, hopping on two feet, you name it, we tried it during our foot races.

We finished our busy week by covering our Cornucopia's with brown paper and coloring the fruit and veggies inside.

Another fun and amazing week with these fun and amazing kids!

Senses

11/5/14 This month we're learning all about using our senses and today we focused on sight.
They decorated paper glasses and played "Pin the Glasses on the Face."  Everyone loved that game and they were all giggles when I spun them around to disorient them.
They also colored on paper, which we eventually turned into telescopes. We went outside for a "scientist" walk and used our telescopes to look for different colors.
The picture I'm attaching is so cute.  Ryan didn't want to turn his masterpiece into a telescope so he's improvising.
I'm so grateful it's still warm enough to play outside.   Whenever they play in our backyard, they use a leftover concrete block as a teleporter to teleport them to the other side of the yard.  Unfortunately,  the concrete block broke a little while ago, but we were able to find all the pieces to put it back together.
I had a great time with your kids today. I love teaching them.
