What Big Teeth You Have!!

Tuesday February 24th our one and only day of preschool this week.  We covered three days in our one day of school and it was so fun reading and making a craft of three very fun fairy tales.  We answered and discussed important questions as we read the different fairy tales.  The first was "Do you think it is important to be nice to other people? why?"  We then read the story of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff."  following the story their answers went something like this.  "We should be nice or you'll get booted off a bridge." and "it's not nice to want to eat people."  but learned that if the Troll was nice to the goats he could have made three very nice new friends.  The story was followed by a Troll mask craft that is still in the works.

The letter X.  Christopher made people like they were in an X-ray. :)
The second story we read was "Goldilocks and the Three Bears."  The Question, "Should you take things that don't belong to you?  They all answered "NO."  The cute little students had to put a puzzle together of the 3 bears using shapes and colors.  They then had to retell the story using pictures and sorted them in to Papa bears pile, Mama bears pile or baby bears pile.  They also made a cute bear craft.

 Play time...

Our third and final story was The three little Pigs.  Do you know some animals with big teeth?  Bears, horse, crocodile, alligator and sharks.  We added the wolf to the list and read the story.  They made a headband with a pig on one side and the wolf on the other.  They acted out the story using the huts they built...which was hilarious to watch and loved playing a new version of duck, duck goose that went, pig, pig, wolf.
being wolves.
cute piggies
So many lessons and snow days and so little time with these three kiddies.

Love in the Mail

This week in February was all about Love and Mail. So appropriate for Valentine's Day!!

First we talked about the shape of the month. A heart! The kids tried to make a heart with their bodies.

Their first attempt was pretty good!

Then it went downhill from there.

With the help of Teacher, they nailed it.

Sorry, the picture wouldn't rotate.

They had lots of fun making mailboxes that they would use for delivering/receiving Valentine's at our party the next day.

We also practiced our counting with heart cereal.
To make it more challenging for these smarties, we did some simple addition and subtraction problems, too.

We talked about how fun it is to get letters in the mail, and how happy we can make people when we send them letters. Than they each made a Valentine for someone special. I know for a fact that Christopher's Grandpa was THRILLED to get his Valentine/birthday card.

The kids had a lot of fun learning how to cut out paper hearts.

The first thing we did on party day was cut out sugar cookies!

These kids were pros and cut out 95% of all the cookies, with minimal dough eating.

We made mailman hats to get ready to deliver Valentine's. I asked the kids if they would like to be a mailman.
Christopher said "nah" (I think he has other career choices in mind-Ninja Turtle)
Ryan said, "Yes, because I like getting things in the mail."
Eisley said, "No, because I would miss my mommy and daddy."

They also learned how to (somberly) say "love" in ASL.

We had a lot of practice delivering Valentines til...

Finally it was time for the party!
Each kid set up "house" in a different section of my house and took turns delivering their Valentine's to each other.

Then we enjoyed some delicious treats and cookie decorating.

These kids were decorating pros!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The Planet Earth

Jan. 28, 2015
We had a great week talking about our amazing planet Earth.  We read books, drew pictures, sang songs and learned facts all about the Earth and other planets in our Solar system.  It was Christopher and Eisley this week at preschool.  Ryan is off on a fabulous vacation...were not jealous. ;)

This Art project turned out great!  They colored coffee filters with marker and then flicked water on to them and they created the coolest Earth picture.

Christopher and Eisley learned about "orbiting".  Orbit means to go around so we went around or orbited the orange cone by skipping, hopping, running and crawling around it.

We skipped out early from preschool and went over to the Ashburn Ice house where they have a "playground on Ice".  Kids have the opportunity to skate, color on the ice with markers, kick a ball around, play hockey, and play with stuffed animals.  Eisley and Christopher were all smiles!!  We have some very talented preschoolers on our hands and talented siblings.  Logan, Christopher's little brother was ice skating on his own.  They all did such a great job out on the ice.

(Tiana you should add some pictures of Christopher and Logan ice skating!!)

We continued learning about the earth, stars, moon and astronauts.  We talked about patterns and Chris and Eisley both created their own patterns using moons and stars.

The moon was our main focus today.  Did you know the moon had craters all over it....

Fun games with moon rocks (balloon) and hide the moon.

We did some astronaut training, built a rocket ship, put our space helmets on and lived a day as an astronaut.  Fun Fact: Did you know applesauce was the first food used in space?

We were so excited to have Ryan back and then learned he wasn't feeling well. :(.

Today we had a special day learning about Ground Hogs day!  They both made their own ground hog.

We played with flashlights and made lots of shadows...we even did a profile of each of them.

More activities...

They colored with chalk to create the ground hogs shadow.

Ryan's back!!  Eisley invited another friend to join us today as well.  We learned all about sending letter in the mail.  How to write on an envelope and where to put the stamp.  The kids then painted and created a heart valentine to give to someone special.

We learned a song about sending a letter and decided to use our video karaoke to practice it.  I think they liked it.

Miss Shelli got all the cars down and the kids were thrilled and had a great time playing together!

Our minute to win it moment.  They took turns stacking as many candy hearts as they could.  I think 5 was the highest.  They cared more about whether they got to eat them after then how many were stacked.  Who can blame them.

Cutting with scissors and math skills.

Finishing up our secret Valentines.

It was so great having all three kids back together again this week and learning about Ground Hogs day and how to send love in the mail to others.  Great week!
